A Special Birthday Party!

Novemeber 2023

I was honoured to be asked to perform for such a wonderful lady at her 40th birthday celebrations in November. The lovely Steph, manager of The Henhayes Centre in Crewkerne, certainly turned 40 in style with a black tie formal party complete with a fabulous buffet, DJ, Casino tables and a magician! Oh... and me! It was such a fantastic party and Steph decorated The Henhayes Centre so beautifully, I didn't recognise it! Such a special evening for such a special person! Photo Credit by the wonderfully talented Victoria Welton who was there to photograph the event and I am beyond thankful for these lovely images.

Made in Dagenham!

September 2023

I was so lucky to be a part of CUDOS's production of Made in Dagenham playing the role of 'Cass'. Its been my first time treading the boards in a show in over 7 years and I just had an absolute blast! I made new friends but also had the priviledge to perform with some of my best friends and my Mum and Stepdad. It was the most amazing show and the post show blues are real! Time for Another Panto!

Panto All Over the World January 2023

I was thrilled to be asked to choreograph this years pantomime. Not only because it's always loads of fun but this year I wouldn't be pregnant and I was also tasked with Musical Direction as well! This year's pantomime was a little different. Four classic pantomime tales all rolled into one! Adapted from a script written originally by Ann Brolly, our talented director, Leonie Dash, certainly put her stamp on it! So much fun with the cast and crew travelling all over the world and finding the music and dance to fit those countries! Everyone once again worked so hard and their tremendous efforts certainly paid off as everyone has raved about it. Well done to all involved! Photos by Aspect Image Photography

Remembrance Day

The Fountain Inn, Bridgwater 12/11/22

What a delight is was to finally be back at the Fountain Inn again after the dreaded Corona! I had performed for Remembrance Day a few years previous and Covid put a stop to any further performances, so when Becky asked me to come back this year it was the biggest yes ever! The pub always go full out with staff and punters wearing old fashioned costumes, old Black and White films being shown, quiz, vintage clothing sale and the pub is covered in poppies. It's spectacular! And this year I was upstaged by a tank! No joke... a tank turned up outside the pub! What a wonderful afternoon and thank you!

Workshops

Collaborating with Power of Performing August 2022 and October 2022

I met Amy, owner of Power of Performing, when working at Razzmataz in Yeovil. A wonderful woman with a passion for singing, performance and young people. She asked if I would like to collaborate with her on some Summer and Halloween workshops and I was thrilled to be involved. We work really well together and we had such a great time. The summer workshop was an Alice in Wonderland themed week long course and we did a two day workshop over Halloween inspired by Harry Potter. We combined dance, song and acting to create short performances for their parent to watch at the end of the workshops and they all enjoyed the performances. What these young people produced in such a short space of time is truly incredible. Can't wait to be back working with Amy again next summer!

Jubilee!

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee June 2022

I have been lucky enough to perform at various things over the Jubilee weekend including a BBQ at Broadwindsor House, a street party hosted by a friend and another street party hosted by Oscar's Wine Bar. I also got the chance to perform at Crewkerne's Party in the Park and I just loved every second. It's been hard to get back into my job after the birth of our little boy, and I was so nervous but my confidence grew with each song and I didn't want it to end, I wanted to sing forever! This was an incredible oppourtunity, one I hope to replicate in the future. Thank you to Ade Morris aka Aspect Images Photography for these fantastic shots! I wonder if I'll ever take a flattering photo while singing...

It's Panto Time...Oh Yes It Is!

Nutcracker Prince with CUDOS January 2022

Well what fun this has been. Not only has it been a joy to be back choreographing for CUDOS, it has been a challenge as I have done the whole rehearsal process pregnant and we welcomed our baby boy just two weeks before opening night. I am so proud of the cast and crew at CUDOS for putting on such a wonderful show and I did get to watch the show once and head down to the aftershow party with a newborn baby in tow! The show went brilliantly and we had fantastic reviews from the audiences. It's been amazing to be working with Lucy Singleton (MD) and Ann Brolly (Director), what a team we are! Well done everyone on a fantastic show, one I will never forget!

Welcome to the World

The Birth of our Son January 2022

I am beyond delighted to announce my husband and I welcomed our beautiful baby boy into this world early January. He is perfect with lovely ginger hair and we couldn't be happier. Thank you for everyone's kind words and gifts. We are overwhelmed with love.

Covid Update

2021

Hi everyone! Well what a year it has been! work has been slow for me. Stop...Start...Barely getting enough work to get by. I volunteered my time for many months in 2020 and ended the year taking a job at the factory where my husband works. 2021 sees me taking on a new role, working as Activities co-ordinator at Cooksons Court in Yeovil. It is wonderful to be a part of the team enriching the lives of some wonderful people and I have already organised a few singalongs! Who knows how long I will be at this job, who knows how long it'll be until I can get back to full time singing again but only time will tell. But for now, I am enjoying being back in regular employment. I hope to be able to visit my wonderful care homes in the very near future and get Victoria Starr singing again!

A glimmer of light in amongst the dark...

VE Day 08/05/2020

Well... It's been quiet! Covid has totally wiped out all of my work! I haven't had any gigs for two months and I have been spending my days volunteering in my town and local community. Doing shopping for vunerable clients, helping to managing the foodbank, cooking meals and taking on some admin jobs. So I couldn't be happier when Careford Lodge and Coastal Lodge got in touch and asked me to perform for VE Day. Everything was safely executed with socailly distancing in place and I just had the best time getting to do what I love again! How I have missed it! Singing gives me a purpose and so much joy. Thank you again and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! Let's hope I can update you soon with more work I have done, but for now, we will have to see!

Christmas Comes but Once a Year!

Art Cafe in Chard 06/12/19

I have performed at the Art Cafe in Chard various times but this one was extra special and extra sparkly! I performed a Swing and Jazz set with a few Christmas songs thrown in for good measure and it was a fabulous evening. Swing music is my all time favourite and I love singing it as well as listening! Guests enjoyed the music along sinde a 3 course meal which included a Christmas Dinner, which I can confirm, was delicious! Thank you for having my for the third time and for letting me sing the songs I adore.

CHICAGO!

Yeovil Youth Theatre's performance of Chicago 20/11/19

I have had a blast choreographing for Yeovil Youth Theatre again for their production of Chicago and tonight is opening night! I am so proud of the talented young performers we have in the local area and it promises to be an absolute belter of a show! They work so hard and their focus has been amazing. The youngsters are like sponges and I'm so envious as I can't remember anything as I'm getting older! Haha! Good luck guys, so proud of you!

Going to the Chapel!

Our Wedding 03/08/19

A beautiful sunny day celebrating with our friends and family. I am now a married woman with a heart full of love and ready to start this new chapter of our lives together. Looking forward to our honeymoon in January 2020 to Jamaica!

Radio GaGa!

Radio interview on BBC Somerset 19/12/18

I met Charlie through my work with Yeovil Youth Theatre and I was so honoured when he asked if he could interview me for his Radio Show on BBC Somerset about my work singing in local care homes. I was so nervous but Charlie put me at ease and even though I had a cold, made me sing anyway! So proud to have achieved this in my career and I just love my job. So happy to be providing entertainment to our elderly community here in the South West!

Remembrance Day

Remembering those who have fallen and those still fighting at Oscar's Wine Bar 11/11/2018

I was honoured to be asked to perform at Oscar's Wine Bar in Crewkerne as they put on a special event to mark Remembrance Day. It was so special and I was so lucky to be joined by a local man who plays the trumpet. Check out the video here https://www.facebook.com/vstarr16/videos/540628976381753 and watch our impromptu and unrehearsed performance together! Defintely an unforgettable moment which was followed by a somber rendition of the Last Post. A few tears from those watching!

Fairytale Wedding Fayre

Wedding Fayre at Woodlands Castle 07/10/18

A wonderful day performing for lots of happy newly engaged couples at Woodlands Castle in Taunton. It was a Fairytale themed event and some of the decor looked absolutely stunning! Lots of other stalls were there, caterers, entertainment etc. and I even managed to get some information from a honeymoon company for my own wedding next year! Bonus!

Something a Little Different!

Stoodley and Son's Community Fund Launch 06/07/18

When I recieved a phone call from Tracey, I was delighted! Stoodley and Son Funeral Directors were launching a new community fund and they were having a reception at Haselbury Mill, would I perform? Of course the answer was yes! They also launched their brand new state of the art Hurse. Now I have never ever performed behind a Hurse before and I probably never will so it was a different experience but a fun one at that! A great evening had by all.

Royal Wedding!

Oscar's Wine Bar 19/05/18

A lovely afternoon down at Oscar's performing a range of songs for the Royal Wedding of Harry and Meghan! The bar was packed a Richard put up a TV so everyone could watch the wedding inbetween my singing sets. Always such a fun time performing at Oscar's and I'm so grateful to them for always thinking of me to entertain at their special occassions and celebrations! Thank you!

CHRISTMAS!

Performing at Waitrose Christmas party at Northover Manor, Ilchester, 10/12/17

What a festive evening this was! It was a pleasure to sing for the lovely people at Waitrose Crewkerne. The party included a disco and a raffle with fantastic prizes and The Northover Manor was a wonderful setting with fantastic food, drink and staff! I performed a variety of Christmas numbers including a few festive carols and some classic pop songs to accompany the arrival drinks and the meal. I brought a new outfit for the occassion; an emerald green velvet number! All in all it was a festiveevening and I had some lovely feedback. Thank you for having me!

Dancing with the Boys!

Choreographing for the Groom and his best friends, 28/09/17

In March I recieved a message from Lee asking if I could choreograph a routine to surprise his bride-to-be at their weddding in September. I knew Lee and some of the boys from school so it was great to catch up with them. They worked so hard over 4 months to produce a routine that was nearly 10 minutes long whilst their partners including the bride thought they were playing badminton! It had some comedy moments, some fantastic hip-hop sections and a stunning lift to finish with! I could not have worked with a lovelier bunch of lads! We had such a laugh and they wanted to do the best they could and they did! I am so proud of what they achieved and I had so much fun choreographing and teaching this mash-up! Well done boys! Take a look below!

An Evening Meeting Bride and Groom's to Be!

St Bartholemews Church Wedding Fair, Crewkerne, 05/05/17

After a full on day singing in Weston-Super-Mare, it was a mad dash back to Crewkerne for the wedding fair! I arrived and set up my stall with my flyers and business cards, a folder containing my repetoire and a small vase of flowers for decoration. The church is just beautiful and a fantastic space for singing in with wonderful acoustics so, after setting up my equipment, I sang various songs from mellow 'Adele' tunes to the upbeat sounds of 'Amy Winehouse' and 'Bruno Mars'. It was a fantastic evening meeting other small business owners from photographers to cake makers! It was lovely to chat to potiential clients and I had a wonderful evening! A big thank you to everyone involved with organising the fair and would love to exhibit again!

Another big thank you to my mum, Helen, who came to help set up and chat to potential clients whilst I sang! She truly is a 'Starr' and I couldn't have done it without her help!

A Lovely Way to Start a Tuesday!

Ivelhurst Nursing Home, Yeovil 25/04/17

This was the first time visiting this Nursing Home and it was massive! There were at least 20 residents, if not more, down in the day room ready to sing and dance along and they did not disappoint! It was a fabulous hour filled with laughs, lots of singing and I was tuckered out after! Everyone was so lovely and the staff were fantasic at encouraging the residents to join in. When everyone joins in and gets involved, it truly lights up my day. It's just wonderful to hear that you've made someones day. I look forward to performing there again soon!

The New Dress!

Careford Lodge, Merriott. 19/04/17

I visited a vintage fair in Cheltenham a few weeks prior to my performance at Careford Lodge in Merriott. I was lucky enough to find a gorgeous new dress and two fabulous shirts! Careford Lodge was the perfect place to road test my new dress. Careford Lodge is a lovely care home with a small residency so the performance is very intimate and the residents enjoy singing along with some of the old classics, including Vera Lynn, Frank Sinatra and The Andrews Sisters. We all had a lovely afternoon and they loved the new dress! Success!

I am happy to be performing there on a regualr basis, and I will be seeing them again on the 24th May! Happy Days!

The Dance House Open Weekend!

A weekend full of dance, art and laughs! 01/04/17 & 02/04/17

The first days of April started with a bang! The Dance House opened it's doors to the public to showcase some wonderful local talent and to show what we do at The Dance House. Over two days, people flocked to see the work from talented local artists including a willow artist, photographers and painters. Also on offer was a selection of free taster dance classes taught by myself and Anita. It was great to gather some more interest in the lessons we teach and see some friendly new faces. To top off the daytime activities, we held a raffle and had refreshments including some wonderful homemade cakes and biscuits.

Both evenings we performed a short show; 'The Passing of Time!' A song and dance through the years! I was fortunate enough to be asked to perform a couple of songs and I loved every minute! I chose 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy' by the Andrews Sisters, 'The Winner Takes It All' by ABBA and 'Read All About It' by Emeli Sande. Alongside myself, we had another wonderful singer join us for the performances, Rosie Clark who was accompained by Chris Edmunds on the piano. Lastly, myself and Anita were joined by two wonderfully talented young dancers to perform various dances choreographed by myself and Anita! This was a wonderful oppourtunity for us all to showcase the work of our new company. We are looking to develop this company and grow into a performance company taking various shows around the local area! Watch this space!

All of us at The Dance House would like to thank everyone who popped in to the open weekend or who came to support us at the performances! We appreciate it and please keep an eye out for upcoming events and news!

Travelling back in time!

Performance at The Orchards care home in Crewkerne on 07/03/17

An hour filled with 1940s Andrew Sisters, 1950s classic rock and roll, some 1960s upbeat tunes and a little bit of 1970s disco thrown in for good measure! The residents and the staff here were amazing! I had a lovely time performing for them and the day room was full! I enjoyed speaking to some of the residents who were so friendly, and they were fasicinated by my lemon dress! Good purchase that dress, everyone loves it!

I'm really looking forward to performing for them again on the 26th of May! I may buy a new dress for the occassion! Wonder if they do one with strawberries on?!

Fun down by the sea!

Performances in Weston-Super-Mare for the Fig Tree Dementia Care group

I was recently giving the opportunity to sing every other Friday in Weston-Super-Mare for a group of wonerful dementia care homes. My day starts around 9.15am, where I leave my home in Crewkerne, lemon dress and equipment in hand, and make the journey to the seaside! It takes just over an hour and I arrive at the first care home, Alice House, at around 10.30am ready to perform there at 11am for an hour. The residents here are all so lovely, singing away and a few having a boogie. Elvis goes down well here!

I grab some lunch and I normally take some work with me and use my time wisely. Next stop is Heathwood House at 2pm to perform an hour set! The residents are always up and dancing, full of energy! Heathwood also has the most gorgeous little dog called Toto, who loves to sit beside me whilst I sing. So cute!!

Lastly its a very quick dash to the last house, Fig Tree House. The performance starts at 3.30pm, so luckily its only a 2 minute drive away! Another energy fuelled hour with the residents, lots of dancing and singing along here too and another dog Coco. Oh, and a budgie who sings along full voice!

My day finishes around 4.45pm and I drive home. I normally get home around 6pm and then teach tap at 6.30pm!

It iis a full on, long day but I have such a great time meeting wonderful people and getting to do what I love. The staff are all fantastic and really get involved and encourage the residents too. What a wonderful way to spend a friday!

Christmas is here!

Performance at Cyril Gallie's charity event rasing money for Yeovil hosptial's SCBU

On the 1st of Decemeber 2016, 'Cryil Gallie at the Hair Shop' in Yeovil hosted a fantastic evening of pampering, food, a silent auction and a raffle all in aid of the Yeovil Hospital's SCBU! I had previously been a hair model for the hairdressers for several years and still use them and I was set to attend this evening as a guest with my mum. However, 24 hours before I was asked to step in and provide some singing for the evening. I jumped at the chance and prepared a set full of some of my favourite songs and some christmas tunes too!

It was a fab evening and I really enjoyed singing in a relaxed environment. I had great feedback from the staff and guests and everyone was so kind and grateful for me stepping in last minute! It was a successful evening which raised £732.00 for the SCBU. As well as getting to sing, I also won two of the silent auctions and the big cuddly toy in the raffle! Bonus! Doing charity events are so much fun and feel good; helping give to those in need. Looking forward to more events at the hair shop whether thats as a guest or as the evening's entertainment!
